Romans 8 - Perspective of Faith, Hope, and Love

LoveGod 2023. 12. 22. 11:05

Romans 8 shows how greatly it is descibed with the perspective of faith, hope, and love.

In the last part of Chapter 7 in Romans, Paul gave a deep sigh, exclaiming "What a wretched man I am!"

Why? Because Paul realized that it is unable to follow God's law with his own effort.

It's absolutely impossible to attain this goal with our own effort. On the contrary, the more we tried to do so, the better we understand how sinful we are.

He also shouts, "Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?"

Romans 6 shows that we have to offer our bodies to the righteousness in order to bear fruit of holiness, resulting in eternal life. However, in Romans 7, he explains how it is vain and worthless to attain this goal only with our human effort. That's why he exclaims he is a wretched man, that is a very bad and miserable person who is literally unable to deliever himself from this chamber of law and his own flesh.

To our surprise, his anguish suddenly turned into the hopeful and victorious shouts through Jesus Christ!

That's the moment that Romans 8 opens its chapter, and we are led to the journey of faith, hope, and love in the path of every verse.

Roman 8 - faith, hope, love

Faith - redemption

Faith is the foundation of hope, and love. What do we believe? First, our redemption. There is no condemnation in us. We had been set free from the law of sin and death by the law of the Spirit of life. God did everything for us. He sent his own son. He condemned sin in the flesh of his son, resulting in fulfilling requirement of the law for those who follow the Holy Spirit.

Regarding faith, Paul elaborately gave an account for redemption by faith in Christ Jesus in previous chapters. We believe and we are justified. Now, he has set foundation to be transformed into Christ's likeness starting from this faith.

We should believe and be convinced that the sinful minds can't please God. We are children of God because God's Spirit dwells in us. Now we can live according to the Spirit, not according to the sinful nature, if we are not dominated by sinful thought but by the Spirit. If Christ is in us, the body is dead but the Spirit gives life in us. He will give us life through the Spirit.

Hope - glory

'Hope' is a vital word for every person. If we have hope, our life is filled with joy. What kind of hope do we christians have? Romans 8 keeps its track of hope that believers could have.

We will live if we put to death the misdeeds of the body by living according to the Spirit. We are all sons of God. We can call Him Abba, Father. We have received sonship. The Holy Spirit himself testifies in us that we are God's children.

If we are His children, we are heirs taking part in Christ's suffering and glory.

Therefore, suffering cannot lose our heart. Glory in the future overwhelms suffering in the present. Even creatures are eagerly expecting that they will join the glory of freedom not decaying. We also eagerly wait our full redemption of body, salvation. We can wait in hope.

The Spirit helps us interceding for us. God is working in and around us fulfilling his good purpose. God called, justifed, and glorifed us with the purpose of being transformed into the image of His son. We are brothers of His first born son.

Love - Christ

God is for us. Nobody can be against us. God freely gives us everything as a gift with love. Nobody can accuse and condemn us. God justifed us and Christ is interceding for us.

Nothing can seperate us from God's love. We face death just as slaughtered sheep.

It's absolutely impossible for all those things to stop us from loving God who loves us. We are conquerors!

God's love can't be blocked by anything.
